Using YouTube to Market your Brand

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Mobile computer use is on the rise, in 2017 they’ll suck down 1.3 billion Gigabytes of video per month. Your videos should be included in that and if you start Marketing with YouTube now, you will be. Here are some quick ways to make your YouTube videos excellent marketing tools for your company, service, product and brand.

YouTube quick stats include over 110 million unique visitors a month and each of them watches 65 videos on average per month. Your videos should be in those numbers and they can be. Getting started is as easy as creating your account, starting your channel and setting up how you want it to look. From there it’s all about making those videos you upload easily found in searches.

The YouTube Search Algorithm puts a lot of stock in the following five things ? Title, Description, Tags, Number of Views and Rating. If you’ve got the first three done right, you should do well in the last two. But for successful YouTube Marketing you need to have content that people want to see. Comedy is fine but for your marketing needs, a how-to will probably suit your purposes the best

You not only need interesting content, you need to optimize for the search engines. Since YouTube processes over 3.5 billion searches a month it’s the 2nd largest search in the world. Optimization means having a very good, concise title, highly relevant tags (keywords), and a great description. In regards o the description, it’s always good to include a clickable link in the first 27 characters. Why 27? Well that’s the length of descriptions prior to ellipsis (the three dots you click to read more). Use a major keyword or tag as the clickable link as well and it will save space and be useful.

Branding via URLs and phone numbers in your video is also a good idea. Also have a call-to-action which will lead people to your site and services in the video. Make sure you get the branding or call-to-action in the thumbnail as well. When you have your videos available, dropping links on popular videos helps, but be careful, don’t make them look like spam. If your product or brand ties into other popular videos in some way, make spin-off videos. That will get you listed in related videos and more visibility.
